Dong Zhuo was overjoyed and repeatedly thanked Wang Yun. After the banquet ended, Wang Yun instructed Diao Chan to accompany Dong Zhuo as they rode together to the Grand Tutor’s residence. 
Later, Lü Bu learned that Diao Chan had followed Dong Zhuo back to the Grand Tutor’s residence. He angrily questioned Wang Yun about the engagement. Wang Yun, feigning ignorance, replied, ‘How could the Grand Tutor take her by force? I plan to bring her into my residence first, choose an auspicious date, and then complete the wedding with you.’ 
Lü Bu, still suspicious, returned to the Grand Tutor’s residence to ask his adopted father, Dong Zhuo, for clarification. Coincidentally, Dong Zhuo had gone to court, and Lü Bu wandered into the garden, where he found Diao Chan alone by a pavilion. 
When Diao Chan saw Lü Bu, she pretended to be aggrieved and started crying uncontrollably. Lü Bu, seeing her tear-streaked face, was deeply moved and approached her to wipe her tears. 
At this moment, Diao Chan cursed Dong Zhuo for being a heartless beast who had sullied her pure heart. She then pretended to be loyal to Lü Bu and, raising her robes, threatened to jump into the lotus pond. 
Lü Bu rushed forward, held Diao Chan by the waist, and comforted her warmly. Diao Chan pushed him away, and Lü Bu hastily swore to the heavens, ‘If I do not marry Diao Chan in this life, I swear not to be a man!’ 
As the two were passionately embracing and talking, Dong Zhuo suddenly returned to the residence to find Diao Chan. Seeing the scene, he angrily cursed, his voice like thunder, causing Lü Bu to quickly release Diao Chan and flee. 
Dong Zhuo grabbed the halberd that Lü Bu had left by the door and viciously struck at Lü Bu. Lü Bu, with quick reflexes, parried the blow, then swiftly fled the Grand Tutor’s residence. 
Dong Zhuo turned around, intending to kill Diao Chan. Diao Chan quickly fell to the ground, crying and pleading, telling Dong Zhuo that Lü Bu had been harassing her and thanking the Grand Tutor for saving her. Dong Zhuo, hearing this, believed her. 
After escaping from the Grand Tutor’s residence, Lü Bu went to Wang Yun’s house and angrily recounted what had happened. Wang Yun seized the opportunity to provoke Lü Bu further, causing Lü Bu to become even more enraged and swear to kill Dong Zhuo. Lü Bu then stormed out.
